Reported from CSPPLAZA: A consortium formed by approximately 10 companies including Canadian-based Rackam is planning to build a concentrated solar power plant with an area of 12,000m² in Jaborandi, Bahia state, to the northeast of Brazil’s capital.
To provide heat for local drying of tobacco & electricity for the Santa-Efigenia farm, a local integrated agribusiness, this project will have a cogeneration system that uses parabolic trough collectors from Rackam, and the proposed S30 parabolic trough collector will achieve an operating temperature range of 150℃ to 350℃.
Rackam has been producing Solar Heat for Industrial Processes (SHIP) since 2009. The parabolic solar concentration projects that Rackam develops worldwide are clean and innovative.
Rackam is one of about 80 companies listed on the SHIP Supplier World Map by Solar Payback. As to now, the company has been involved in related projects in Canada, Brazil, Morocco, United States, Greece, Spain, Portugal, etc.
According to company´s information, Rackam has completed 6 SHIP reference systems totalling 2,092 m² of collector area by the end of 2017. One of them, located at a wastewater treatment plant in the US state of Arizona and has come online.

The project--PRODUTECH PSI, is the company's first solar thermal project in Portugal and the second solar thermal project in Europe. It was put into operation in 2014, becoming the first project of the company to use solar thermal for industrial heating.
The S20 solar parabolic troughs of Rackam have an operating temperature range of 65℃ to 340℃. They should be prioritized when ground surface is available, as it allows for lower construction, installation and maintenance costs. A ground system also allows for larger mirrors to be installed, which in clear sky conditions can lead to a superior output.

The S10 solar parabolic troughs of Rackam have an operating temperature range of 65℃ to 240℃. They should be prioritized for projects where ground surface is limited and large roof surfaces are available. Its aluminium core composites give it the light and structural strength required to be installed on rooftops.
