HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), received a senior delegation from Shanghai Electric Power Company (Shanghai Electric) headed by Zheng Jianhua, Chairman of the Board of Shanghai Electric. This is one of a series of visits made by major international companies to DEWA.
Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, and Abdul Hamid Al Muhaidib, Executive Managing Director of Noor Energy 1 also attended.
At the beginning of the meeting, Al Tayer welcomed the visiting delegation, and talked about the importance of enhancing cooperation with Shanghai Electric, considering DEWA’s strategic partnerships with leading energy Chinese companies.
The meeting focused on the work in progress on the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park’s projects. Shanghai Electric is the main contractor of the fourth phase of the solar park, which is the largest single-site project in the world. It uses both concentrated solar power (CSP) and photovoltaic solar technologies based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, with a capacity of 950 megawatts (MW) and investments of up to AED 15.78 billion.
This phase will use 250MW from photovoltaic solar panels and 700MW of CSP (600MW from a parabolic basin complex and 100MW from a solar tower). The project will feature the tallest solar tower in the world, at 260 metres, and the largest thermal storage capacity of 15 hours that will ensure the continuous availability of power.
At the end of the visit, the Shanghai Electric delegation thanked Al Tayer for his welcome and detailed brief on DEWA’s work and projects, expressing interest in participating in DEWA’s pilot projects in clean and renewable energy.
China International CSP Conference(CPC2019) is to be held on 10-12,July,in Suzhou, China. During the conference, Global CSP professionals will conduct in-depth exchanges to discuss the topics of concentrated solar power.
