EDF Energies Nouvelles Consortium Won the Bid of Morocco 800 MW Noor Midelt Solar Hybrid CSP & PV Project
Reported from CSPPLAZA: On May 21, The Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy (MASEN) announced, EDF Energies Nouvelles formed by EDF, Masdar and Green of Africa, won the bid of Morocco 800 MW Noor Midelt solar hybrid CSP & PV project. EDF Energies Nouvelles will be responsible for the design, financing, construction and O&M of the project.
The tender process was launched In July, 2016. By the deadline in November 2016, 7 applicants have submitted their proposals and Masen announced five consortia are officially pre-qualified. The consortiums officially pre-qualified are: ACWA Power Consortium, EDF Energies Nouvelles, Engie, Innogy SE and JGC.
In January of 2018, three groups have answered the tender launched to build the Noor Midelt solar power complex, including ACWA Power, Engie SA and EDF Energies Nouvelles.
The total capacity of this first phase will be 800 MW. With 5 hours energy storage. The hybrid technology will optimize energy production, leading to competitive pricing of MAD 0.68 per KwH(about 7 cents/kWh) at peak time. Noor Midelt project is a great solar complex project following Noor Ouarzazate which hosts three CSP plants of combined capacity 510 MW as well as PV of 70 MW capacity. Noor I is a parabolic trough plant with capacity of 160 MW, Noor II parabolic trough plant and Noor III tower plant with respective capacity of 200 MW and 150 MW are operational.
The financing of Noor Midelt solar hybrid CSP & PV project has almost finished. At present, the obtained financial institutions ‘ loan are as follows: Germany’s KFW bank supports $852 million; European investment bank supports $420 million; African development bank supports $265 million; French development bank supports $180 million. The World Bank will add US$125 million in additional to support Morocco’s adoption of innovative solar technology( includes US$25 million from the Clean Technology Fund ). Financing implementation will ensure the successful performance of the project.
EDF is also deeply involved in the CSP market in China. Together with Beijing Shouhang IHW Resources Saving Technology Co., Ltd., EDF researches and develops supercritical carbon dioxide. EDF will attend the China International CSP Conference（CPC2019) and give a keynote speech with the topic of supercritical carbon dioxide cycle CSP technology.
