Annual power generation of 330 million KWH! Ulate Middle Banner 100MW trough solar thermal power station hit a new high

Recently, good news has come from the 100MW/1000MWh trough solar thermal power station in Ulat Middle Banner, Inner Mongolia, designed, constructed, commissioned and operated by China Shipbuilding New Power Co., Ltd (hereinafter referred to as "China Shipbuilding New Power"), a member of CSPPLAZA platform.

In March 2023, the power generated by the station amounted to 34.512 million KWH, representing an increase of 14.752 million KWH as compared with the same period in 2022; In the first quarter of 2023, it increased by 19.52 million KWH compared with the same period last year. 

As of March 31, 2023, the complete annual pure solar thermal power of the power station is about 330 million KWH (the annual power generation is expected to exceed 360 million KWH in 2023), setting a new annual power generation record for domestic solar thermal power stations.

The project started construction in June 2018 and achieved full load of 100MW power generation in December 2020. The project was put into operation in 2021, and the heat storage system was put into operation in July of the same year. The power generation hours were 2,107.9 hours, which was the highest among the seven solar thermal demonstration projects put into operation in China at that time. In January 2022, the project underwent routine maintenance. From February to December, pure solar thermal power was 310 million KWH, which was the project with the highest equivalent utilization hours of domestic solar thermal projects that have been connected to the grid and put into operation. In the first quarter of 2023, by optimizing the winter operation strategy and solving the problem of difficult cleaning in winter, the company broke through the difficulties of high latitude operation, and the power generation increased by 19.52 million KWH compared with the same period last year. From April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023, the complete annual pure solar thermal power of the power station will be about 330 million KWH (the annual power generation is expected to exceed 360 million KWH in 2023), which will refresh the annual power generation record of domestic solar thermal power stations and continue to lead the domestic solar thermal power demonstration projects.

In addition, in June 2022, under the cloudy and rainy summer conditions, the company achieved continuous power generation of pure solar thermal without downtime for 12 days, with a total power generation of 22.32 million KWH and the highest power generation of 105.54MW exceeding the design value; On June 5, 2022, the maximum power generation in a single day reached 2.192 million KWH, which was equivalent to full load power generation for 22 hours a day, and the maximum power generation in a single day exceeded the design value; In 2022, the power generation exceeded 40 million KWH in many months, and the highest power generation in a single month exceeded the design value. The solar thermal conversion efficiency of the project reaches 78%, and the thermoelectric conversion efficiency reaches 41.47% (the thermoelectric conversion efficiency of small medium-temperature units at home and abroad is about 38%).

As previously reported, the project is the trough solar thermal power station with the largest single scale and the longest heat storage duration among the country's first batch of solar thermal power demonstration projects. Design, construction, commissioning and operation and maintenance by CSSC New Energy; During the construction of the project, it has successively created the world record of system oil injection of 570 tons in a single day for a solar thermal project, the world record of oil injection of 38 heat collection loops in a single day, the world record of balance regulation accuracy of primary flow in the heat collection field, and the world record of shortest construction period and commissioning period, becoming the first solar thermal project with full load power generation in the same latitudes in China.
